The author shows the clear and close relation of design to workmanship, and arouses interest in the technical side of art which lovers of art don't ordinarily ponder much, but can be a never-failing source of interest. The illustrations are beautifully done (no surprise in a book devoted to design and ornamentation!) and help the reader to grasp the concepts in the text.
