Very nice copy of an important psychological study. In this, his second book, Mueller showed that the eye reacts not only to external stimuli but to internal stimuli caused by disease or by the imagination. In this way Mueller explained phenomena such as religious visions or the appearance of ghosts. Mueller wrote that 'in intercourse with the external world we continually sense ourselves.' Apparently, he was able to summon hallucinatory visions when he closed his eyes, and thus was able to base many insights on self-observation.
