Philadelphia: S. Augustus Mitchell, 1849. Third edition. Library Binding. Folio (14 x 17 1/2), pp. 72, 73 hand-colored maps plus important b/w engraving on title page (First Landing of Columbus in the New World), and hand-colored diagram (Lengths of the Principal Rivers... Heights of the Principal Mountains). Very Good, mild ex-library. Two triangular holes on mountains and rivers chart, repaired w/ white backing. Light sunning to page edges, but maps are clean and bright, very small and light spots on about 13 maps (inconspicuous except on four pages). Several pages loose--all present. Item #7794
Very beautiful set of maps, in an early edition. Apparently the last edtion done by Mitchell (first just two years earlier). Great historic interest throughout, as America (and the rest of the world) were in especially rapid flux at this time. Early plans of New York and other cities are of special note, along with state and country maps.
