uncommon, A substantial and well-illustrated volume devoted to the program of church rebuilding and restoration undertaken in the DDR (East Germany) after the destructive effects of the Second World War. Most of the churches selected for illustration are carefully restored buildings of the middle ages, but some are post-war replacements for churches that had been utterly destroyed, and others combine restored exteriors with wholly new twentieth century interiors.
