The author was a German zoologist, who wrote a longer work called "The Subterranean World" in 1871, a detailed exploration of the underground ecosystems of caves, mines, and other subterranean environments. The research for that title led to the publication of this book solely on mines. Chapters on mines in general; coal; gold; silver; copper; tin; iron; lead; and salt. Scarce title; currently the only copy available.
