The Household Magazine, Dec 1884; Devoted to Literature and General Fireside Topics
Providence, RI: Buker Publishing Company, 1884. Original edition. Stitchbound Wraps. Folio (10.5" x 15"), pp. 26, illustrated with b/w engravings and period advertising. Very Good. Item #23605
This magazine covered a range of topics, with content that aimed to appeal to a large age range. This issue contained recipes, puzzles, fashion, humor, poetry, fiction, and a few articles on contemporary topics such as profits of raising cattle in Texas, and the morality of execution by electricity. The family could have a lot of interesting conversations around the articles, or they could read the fiction aloud to each other, or try to solve the puzzles together. In the time before radio and television, this must have been an eagerly awaited magazine for the whole family.
