Conservation and preservation are two complementary activities having the same goal - protection of our cultural heritage. However, it was not until 1972 that for the first time 140 of the leading practitioners in these two disciplines met for a 5-day conference. These two professions have much in common, and one of the main goals of the conference was to enable the participants to establish closer relationships by learning more about one another's practices and problems and exploring areas where one profession might be able to assist the other. This volume includes the full texts of the essays prepared for the conference, amply documented with photographs and drawings, as well as commentaries or responses and general discussions.
