Paris: Gide, 1858. First edition. Half-Leather with Marbled Boards. Folio (13.5" x 19"), 43 full-page plates, some in color, some fold out. Text in French. Withdrawn from the Museum of Fine Arts collection, with two book plates from the MFA affixed inside the front cover. Ex-library markings on the back of each plate. Good; heavy wear to edges and corners, some foxing and soiling, some plates have been expertly repaired. Item #21906
The author was a French architectural historian. These plates illuminated important cathedrals such as Notre Dame and Reims, and featured details such as bronze doors, stained glass windows, facades, wall paintings, and much more. The color images are very vivid and arresting. We've never had this title before.
