The author was instructor in decorative design at the College of the City of New York and at the Woman's Art School, Cooper Union. The notes for the study of design contained in this book are the result of years of experience in teaching and designing. They are arranged to treat the subject briefly and directly in order to meet the practical requirements of students. Materials and books that the writer found particularly helpful are designated in the bibliography. An attractive book published at the height of the Arts & Crafts movement, when the study of design was particularly interesting and influential.
