The Mediaeval Mason; An Economic History of English Stone Building in the Later Middle Ages and Early Modern Times

Manchester, UK: Manchester University Press, 1949. Third edition. Cloth over Boards. Small quarto, pp. xii, 294, indexed, no illustrations. Signed by previous owner John H. Harvey, BM/NPOR, with his annotations neatly in the margins of the text. Very Good in Very Good DJ. Item #21748

The first three chapters of this book deal chiefly with the economic history of the stone-building industry in England during the later Middle Ages and attempt a picture of the conditions under which the mediaeval mason - whether freemason, hewer, roughmason or layer - are examined, and in the seventh and final chapter the changes in the economic conditions of the industry during the 16th and 17th centuries are described. This is the first time we've been able to offer this title with its elusive dust jacket.
