Cleveland, OH: J.H. Hansen, Publishers, 1929. First edition. Cloth over Boards, navy w/gilt design & lettering. Folio (10" x 14.5"), pp. 194. Beautiful b/w photographs of 108 classical Italian doorways accompanied by architectural drawings. Very Good in Very Good DJ. Item #21682
The author undertook this study of doorways and entrances in Italy just as fascism began to spread across the country. Thus his ability to make measured drawings and take photographs was hampered in some instances. Nonetheless, he assembled and completed this study which includes early styles of Tuscan architecture through later classical styles. A visually impressive title, with elevations of all the doorways. This is the first time we've had a copy of this title with its elusive dust jacket.
