Early New England Interiors: Sketches in Salem, Marblehead, Portsmouth and Kittery.

Boston, MA: A. Williams and Company, 1878. First edition. Marbled Boards with Cloth Spine. Oblong folio, pp. 96, illustrated with b/w drawings. Ex-library markings. Very Good. Item #21643

This hard-to-find resource for architecture and preservation enthusiasts features Little’s sketches of some of the region's finest colonial interiors and details from houses in Salem and Marblehead, Massachusetts; Kittery, Maine; and Portsmouth, New Hampshire, including Historic New England’s Governor John Langdon House. The sketches were done early in Little’s career when he worked as a draftsman for Peabody and Sterns in 1877. In 1878, he went into independent practice and then in 1890 formed a partnership with Herbert W. C. Browne that lasted until the 1920s and focused on domestic architecture for clients in Boston, Brookline, the North Shore of Massachusetts, and Washington, D.C. We've been able to offer the Historic New England reprint in the past, but this is the first time we've had the first edition for sale.
