Greene & Greene.

Pasadena: Univ. of Southern California, 2003. First paperback edition. Decorated Wraps. Quarto, pp. 240, indexed, illustrated with b/w and color photographs. As New. Item #21036

The collaboration of Charles Sumner Greene and Henry Mather Greene at the turn of the last century produced some of the most sensuous and beautifully crafted architecture in America. Working together at the height of their careers, using wood as their primary medium, the brothers brought to Southern California a remarkably prescient Pacific-Rim aesthetic combined with the Shingle Style sensibilities they had developed during their youthful apprenticeships in Boston. This critical monograph of the brothers' careers - as they developed jointly, then separately - is illustrated with intelligent, sensitive new color photography by Mark Fiennes, and draws on a wealth of previously unpublished data and archival photographs to produce the most scholarly volume on their work to date.
