The Bicknell volume was "Detail, Cottage and Constructive Architecture" (1873). American Builder magazine called it "the best of its class, and also the cheapest." Comstock's book was "Modern Architectural Designs and Details" (1881). Many of Comstock's plates show decorative details like sunbursts, flowers and rosettes. These volumes had three unusual features: an imposing folio format, hundreds of exterior and interior details in a usefully large scale, and some designs for non-residential buildings. From the Old House Journal reference library.
