Previous editions of this book taught practical geometry using cardboard models, but this new edition omitted those, preferring to leave "sufficient space for more new and advanced ideas," such as the use of the slide rule in mathematical calculations. The author noted in the preface, "Science and Industry are progressing, and he who will not keep pace with the march of intellect must necessarily fall in the rear, and be passed by."
