Cleveland, OH: J.H. Hansen, Publishers, 1929. First edition. Cloth over Boards, navy w/gilt design & lettering. Folio, (10 1/14" x 14 1/2") pp 194. Beautiful b/w photographs of 108 classical Italian doorways accompanied by architectural drawings. Good, but mild ex-library. Rear hinge a bit weak. Item #19957
The author undertook this study of doorways and entrances in Italy just as Facism began to spread across the country. Thus his ability to make measured drawings and take photographs was hampered in some instances. Nonetheless, he assembled and completed this study which includes early styles of Tuscan architecture through later classical styles. A visually impressive title, with elevations of all the doorways.
