The author was an architect who practiced his profession in San Francisco, Chicago, New York, and Los Angeles. Gladding, McBean wanted to do in decorative tile what they had done successfully in terra-cotta and roof tile, and hired the author to study tile in the Old World centers of the art. Stanton spent six months in quest of inspiration and knowledge, and his itinerary included opportunities for factory research and study of celebrated tile installations, ancient and modern. Stanton took several hundred photos and created water-color paintings of what he saw, and the best of his work was compiled into this volume, hopefully to stimulate the use of decorative tile in the western world. This is the first time we've had this title for sale.
