New York: New Directions, 1950. First edition, in 1600 copies. Publisher's yellow cloth. Octavo, pp. 106. Schwartz's poems and short articles, written between 1943 and 1950. His fourth publication. Laid in: 8 x 11 photogravure of "An informal Literary Gathering at The Gotham Book Mart," (1948), with all the literary giants of the day, including Schwartz, looking a little out of place next to Marianne Moore! Very Good in Very Good (Not Price-Clipped) DJ, with water staining to paper, not evident on binding or dustjacket. Item #1182
A brilliant but unstable artist, this is his first publication since 1943. Compilation of some wonderful essays (his 3 pager on automobiles is a real period piece) and his poetry. Uncommon title, as are most of Schwartz's first editions.
