Johann Arndt, 1555 - 1621, was a celebrated German Lutheran theologian. The present copy is a lovely Reutlingen imprint of Arndt's famous and frequently printed tract. As much an emblem book as a purely religious title. The emblem images in the text are an interesting nineteenth century interpretation of earlier european Pietism. The two hand-colored title images are quite vivid still.
