Albany Architects; The Present Looks at the Past
Albany: Historic Albany Foundation, 1978. First edition. Staplebound Wraps. Quarto, pp. 26, illustrated w/ b/w drawings and photographs. Very Good. Item #19440
In the late 1970s, there were efforts to rebuild Albany, efforts which in retrospect were proved to be devastating. Many landmark buildings were demolished. These essays were a first step in providing a better understanding of the visible city which architects created over the course of 150 years, in hopes that new attitudes would be nurtured: renewal that renews existing structures rather than destroying them, saving the familiar while accommodating new needs. A dozen architects are profiled, with photographs or prints of their works.
