[Books About Books]. Zapf, Hermann; Standard, Paul (trans.).

Typophile Chap Books XXXVII; About Alphabets-Some Marginal Notes on Type Design.

The Typophiles New York 1960 12mo, pp 118. b/w calligraphic styles illustrated within.
The design of typography and books "for our time" was Hermann Zapf's central artistic commitment. He designed this book, set in his own typeface, Linotype Optima. It is illustrated with other fonts he designed, and the text reflects his artistic development as well as his principles. The styles include such famous faces as Palatino, Melior, Aldus, and Optima. An uncommon book, beautifully produced. He was one of Fritz Eberhardt's mentors.
