À L'aube d'une Guerre: Poèmes (signed, numbered, limited edition).

[Art]. Rothschild, Philippe de.

À L'aube d'une Guerre: Poèmes (signed, numbered, limited edition).

Henri Javal Paris 1950 Folio (12"x15.5"), Most pages include b/w mezzotint illustrations by Avati.
A beautiful volume of poetry by Baron Philippe de Rothschild, written while he was a prisoner of war in Casablanca in 1940. Among his many other activities (he was a Grand Prix race car driver, an author, screenwriter and playwright, theatre and film producer, and one of the most successful wine growers in the world), de Rothschild was an accomplished poet, publishing five volumes of poetry as well as translating other poets' work into French. This rare volume contains a series of beautiful yet dark illustrations by Mario Avati, a leading French revivalist of the mezzotint. This limited edition is noted for its fine illustrations and elements of book design. A rare find by an important modern French figure.
